MAHARASHTRA MOVES TO TOKENISE LAND: THE DELTA ACT EXPLAINED
DELTA कायद्याची तयारी Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on 20 July directed officials to draft the Maharashtra Digitisation and Exchange of Land Token Asset (DELTA) Act, chairing a meeting at Sahyadri Guest House on a framework to digitise and exchange tokenised interests in immovable property using blockchain. An expert committee drawing on the Securities and Exchange Board of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange, along with domain specialists, has been directed to be constituted to prepare the legislation, after studying international tokenisation laws and practices. If enacted, the DELTA Act would make Maharashtra one of the first Indian states with a dedicated law for blockchain-based real-estate tokenisation, potentially allowing property interests to be represented as digital tokens, fractional ownership to be traded, and immovable assets to be used as collateral more efficiently. The government has framed the move as part of a push toward a one-trillion-dollar state economy by 2030.
