BAIL REFUSED, DEVELOPER UNTRACEABLE: EOW TAKES OVER A MIRA-BHAYANDAR FRAUD CASE
EOW कडे HPT ACCOUNTABILITY DESK | MIRA-BHAYANDAR A Mira-Bhayandar developer is reported to be untraceable after a Thane sessions court declined his bail plea in a case alleging cheating of flat-buyers. As per the complaint, the alleged fraud involves the misuse of a partner firm's MahaRERA registration and a sum said to be owed to buyers of around ₹7.24 crore across an estimated 37 flat-buyers; the investigation is reported to have since been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing, which typically takes over cases once the scale or complexity of alleged financial wrongdoing exceeds what a local police station is equipped to pursue. This desk has not independently located the underlying FIR or case number for this matter through the public sources available to us, and we are recording it here on the basis of the source material provided to this paper, pending that verification. We record every element of this account as an allegation at the investigation stage, not as an established fact. The developer named in the complaint has not been convicted of anything, and the charges against him remain to be tested in a court of law. We have sought his response for publication and the right of reply remains open to him; we do not treat a court's refusal of bail — which turns on flight risk and the strength of a prima facie case, not on final guilt — as any kind of finding against him. Beyond the specifics of this one case, the reader-relevant fact is a verification habit, not an accusation: a MahaRERA registration number belongs to one specific project and one specific promoter, and any buyer can check it directly against the official portal before signing anything or transferring money. The alleged scheme in this case is said to have depended on a buyer's inability, or failure, to make exactly that check. Whatever the eventual outcome of the case against this particular developer, the underlying protection available to every buyer in Maharashtra does not depend on it.
